Select The Right LED Tube To Replace Fluorescent Tube

Selecting the right replacement for old inefficient lighting fluorescent lighting fixtures is important. The selection of the product happens after the right installation is determined.

The method of installation is basically determined by the types of tube technology you use. There are two tube technologies actually; T8 or T12.

If you do not know what you have installed already, take the tube/bulb out and read the markings on the end.

If you do not see the markings, get a scale and try to measure the diameter of the tube.

Names And Diameters

The nomenclature of these lights depends on the size of these fixtures.

  • If the diameter of the tube is one inch, then the tube is T8.
  • If the diameter happens to be 3/2 inch, the tube is T12.
  • If the measurement comes out to be ⅝ inches, the tube is T5.
If the tube is T8, it will certainly have an electronic ballast. T12 tubes will have a magnetic bypass only. To confirm the kind of ballast that you actually have, open the fixture up and check it out.

The only problem with these tubes is that the old fixtures are only going to have a magnetic ballast. Electronic ballast came out later than the magnetic ones. The disadvantage of electric ballast is higher expense along with the worry that the LED Tube won’t illuminate if the ballast fails.

What About LED Fluorescent Replacement Tubes?

Nobody nowadays wants to spend much on the entire new luminaire, as LEDs can be retrofitted in the new fixtures. There is a high demand for new LED products, which came out for different commercial and residential lighting applications.

All the changes an developments can be attributed to new requirements and people who look for new ways to replace the fluorescent lights.

LED Tubes: Advantages of LED T8 Light Solutions

Since the launch of LED technology,  The new generation of T8 LED tubes delivers optimum brightness at low power consumption. These tubes are divided into three types. Type A: Ballast Compatible Type B: Not compatible with the ballast  Type A + B: Can work with or without the help of ballast The ballast section controls energy distribution to ensure that the required voltage, current, and waveform are present when a traditional light source like the fluorescent tubes or HID lamps is turned on and operated.  T8 LED bulbs do not require this additional electricity consumption; therefore, eliminating the ballast saves you energy right away because you aren't wasting energy to ballast draw. Each modified fixture uses a few watts less without a ballast. T8 retrofits assist the older fixtures by using the ballast feature to control power consumption and distribute uniform brightness. Usually, the use of ballast has lowered down, giving way to new generation T8 LED tubes. ...
