Five Factors To Consider While Planning Gym Lighting

The world is now becoming more fitness oriented.

Fitness is now a personal thing and a social status symbol in terms of its aesthetic outcomes. A good shape is just as important as good fitness.

Gyms are getting more and more members every day and week.

Most of the gym-goers take time out of their busy schedules to stay fit. They expect cleanliness, hygiene, equipment, and many other things. One thing they do not bother about, but is as important as is lighting. Unfortunately, there are not many conscious of lighting.

Good lighting helps work out with concentration, whereas bad lighting does the opposite.

Like any other settlement, ambient lighting is all about making the gym a safe place. Hence an important amount of light, as well as the right number of lights, is important.

Gyms are large spaces, and they have some special needs.

In general, fitness centers need illumination/light level in the range of 200-300 lux.

In general, LED gym lighting fixtures are the best. Here is a quick list of some important factors to keep in mind while planning gym lighting.

LEDs are the best

If you are just building a gym up or renovating the old ones, consider LED lights. LED lights have unparalleled advantages over any other lighting technology out there.

Natural lights are the best

If you exercise outdoors, you might know how good exercising feels in the sunlight. Most of the gyms lack direct exposure to natural daylight.
Rooflights and skylights are good options, but it is not feasible everywhere. The best way to achieve the effect of daylight is to mimic it with artificial lights. The color temperature of natural sunlight is 5000 kelvins. There are many lighting technologies that can help achieve this color temperature, but LED lights are the best of all. LEDs can mimic natural daylight very well.

Gym ceiling heights-

Different ceiling heights need different types of fixtures. In general, the ceiling heights of most gyms are 20 feet or more. This is somewhat like warehouses, which have large heights. For this height range, LED high bay lights can work well.
Make sure that you place the lights at correct heights, or it will distract the exercisers. IF they hang low, they will make the workout difficult.

Mind The Ceiling Type

Dry Board or plasterboard ceilings work best for both suspended as well as recessed lighting. They provide flexibility in terms of lighting options as well as future upgradations.
In the case of concrete ceilings, there are more limitations. So, it is important that you identify the types of light you are going to use.

How important is the color of the roofs?

The color of your ceilings matter, just like their heights.
Light color walls and ceilings have a high reflectance. It can increase the light intensity hitting the background by increasing the reflected light. So, it is better to use low lumen output LED high bay lighting fixtures instead of higher ones,

For dark colored ceilings, you will need lights with high lumen output, because of their poor reflectance.

LED Tubes: Advantages of LED T8 Light Solutions

Since the launch of LED technology,  The new generation of T8 LED tubes delivers optimum brightness at low power consumption. These tubes are divided into three types. Type A: Ballast Compatible Type B: Not compatible with the ballast  Type A + B: Can work with or without the help of ballast The ballast section controls energy distribution to ensure that the required voltage, current, and waveform are present when a traditional light source like the fluorescent tubes or HID lamps is turned on and operated.  T8 LED bulbs do not require this additional electricity consumption; therefore, eliminating the ballast saves you energy right away because you aren't wasting energy to ballast draw. Each modified fixture uses a few watts less without a ballast. T8 retrofits assist the older fixtures by using the ballast feature to control power consumption and distribute uniform brightness. Usually, the use of ballast has lowered down, giving way to new generation T8 LED tubes. ...
