The streets around housing complexes and other parts of a town are crucial, and their condition determines the plight of a city. To improve the lighting conditions of the locality, the Brough Council of Califon, New Jersey, has made an important decision. On May 18, 2020, the council agreed to work with the Environment commission to replace any existing sodium- vapor street lighting fixtures with new, energy-saving ones.

The existing sodium vapor lights consume large amounts of energy and need frequent replacements. Thus, there is an enormous maintenance cost associated with sodium vapor lamps. Installing new and better lighting fixtures such as energy-saving LED pole lights, and parking lot lights will help Califon save more energy. Unlike sodium vapor streetlights, the LEDs will not require frequent replacements. Hence it can help cut down the maintenance budget.
Saving Energy with LED pole lights
Califon spends around $701 per month on operating the present sodium vapor street lights. The council is aware of the fact that using LED streetlights will come cheaper in the long run, even if the upfront installation costs are higher. LEDs consume less energy per run, they are brighter and offer better performance over long-term use. An investment in LED street lighting fixtures will mean that there will be almost no need for replacements or repairs for at least five years from the day of installation.
There may be many sodium vapor streetlights in the area that need identification for replacement. Determining how many LED lighting fixtures does the Borough street lighting project need is a challenge as well as of utmost importance. The analysis will help the authorities to pass a budget for the street lighting project. It would be of help if the commission maintained an inventory of the sodium vapor light installations around the area. By all practical means, the streets will need fewer LED parking lot lights in comparison with sodium vapor ones.
The Borough of Califon, incorporated on April 2, 1919, has a total area of .972 square miles, including land and water. It has a population of around 1,060, including almost 400 households. Installing LED parking lot lights and pole lights will change the way the community looks at the sayings that come along with the use of LED parking lot lights.
